DescriptionFrom Isabel Browne Driscol: "The canvasback painting, 20 x 30, was painted in 1953, completed in December, as a commission for a client named John R.H. Rehm. It's studio title, from George's journal is "Along the Shore Ice". I would say it is of the eastern shore - Chesapeake area. George tended to paint regionally as far as the location of his pictures, and his journals indicate that he was on the East coast, at that time. Certainly the background and ice look like central eastern shore. George created the painting in 22 days from start to finish, detailing his progress on each of the "three flying birds" and the other bird's #'s 1-5, the sky, and the landscape. Mr. Rhem immediately commissioned three additional paintings, two of grouse and one of pheasant, which were completed by mid-May of 1954."
