BiographyBorn in Syracuse, New York, Greg McHuron was raised in Colorado, Wyoming, Alaska, and California. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in art, and also took classes in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife. After completing his studies, McHuron worked as a designer and art director for an interior design firm, while developing a market for his paintings.
In 1973, McHuron moved to Jackson, Wyoming, to be close to the subjects he preferred to paint - primarily landscapes and wildlife. McHuron most often paints en plein air, and names the esteemed landscape painter Conrad Schwiering as a major influence to his artistic style. He exhibits his work in galleries throughout the United States and has been a member of the Society of Animal Artists since 1979.
McHuron says about his work: "I prefer painting on location as much as possible, as the drama and excitement which occurs all around me is difficult to recreate in a studio environment. When I paint these rapidly changing scenes, I try to put into each of them the feelings and excitement I felt while watching the scene unfold. If I can capture that particular feeling, I know that those viewing my works will come to feel some of the emotions and excitement that motivated my wanting to record this particular fleeting moment."
