Inscription translated by Erika Muschaweck, museum volunteer: "For Friendly Remembrance, Dedicated to Dr. Hornaday." 

Presumably given to William Temple Hornaday after Friese's visit to the United States in 1908 to go on a hunting and sketching expedition to New Brunswick with Carl Rungius.
