From The Observer 2/15/1909: "'Solitude' (77) by Carl Rungius presents the sullen impressive northern tundra in all its awful splendor, the imposing lone caribou bull accentuating the dreaded 'no man's land.' We believe this to be one of the finest canvasses from the brush of this celebrated painter-zoologist."

He has roamed all over the United States and Canada, from New Brunswick and Maine to California and Alaska, studying and sketching the big game and is an authority upon their habits and habitat. Exhibited at the Society of American Arts, National Academy of Design, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
