Brief bio from The Camper’s Own Handbook: “Items of Interest: The best known painter of American big game is beyond peradventure Carl Rungius, whose canvasses have been hung in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and who is so widely known among the outdoor fraternity, especially for his moose studies. Of German birth, he began his career as an artist in Berlin, but in 1894 he came to the United States, where he has since made his home. Rungius is just beginning to come into his own, and already his work is much sought after by collectors and galleries. It may be said of his moose pictures that for fidelity and power they are altogether in a class by themselves. It gives us great pleasure to reproduce one of them as a frontispiece to our present issue.” p. 183-184
